ARE THERE DIRECT FLIGHTS TO PALERMO?
Most airlines seem to have at least one layover. Please note that tickets to Palermo can get pricey. However it is not difficult to find cheap, direct flights once in Europe. A good way to make travel cheaper would be fly into London (LHR), Rome (FCO), or Portugal (LIS) + then fly directly to Palermo.

WHAT’S THE WEATHER LIKE IN SICILY IN November?
The average temperature in Scopello in November for a typical day ranges from a high of 66°F (19°C) to a low of 59°F (15°C). Some would describe it as mildly cool with a gentle breeze.
With that in mind, most people would dress in something moderately warm like a sweater.
-
HOW DO WE GET TO THE AIRPORT FROM THE HOTEL?
We are currently looking into discounted transportation from the airport. Once we have a better sense of who's coming - we can help arrange transport. Another option would be taking a taxi! This would be ~75 euros to get to Scopello. You can also rent a car for 40 euros a day, and there is parking at the venue. (If you do rent a car make sure it's automatic!)
-
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BRING?
Some other key items: PASSPORT (very important), outlet converters (note, certain electronics like hairdryers, flat irons, steamers, etc. will require voltage converters), sunscreen (protect that beautiful skin).
We recommend having all of your flight, hotel, car reservation details handy. If you're in a place with a weak wifi or cell connection it may be difficult to pull up websites, emails, etc. so it's always good to have those docs printed or screenshots saved in your camera roll.

What is La Tonnara di Scopello?
The Tonnara di Scopello, nestled between cliffs and prickly pears, is a real seafront museum: it tells the story of tuna fishing, an activity that is part of the Sicilian tradition and fundamental for the island's economy. In this community, the rais is the most important figure, who organizes the day to day, decides how to position the nets and is in command of the fishermen, called tonnarotti.
The Tonnara di Scopello dates back to 1200 and is one of the oldest in Sicily. The activity continued until 1984, and every year, on average, about 500 tuna were caught.
Originally the tonnara, the trap, was smaller: it consisted of the building perched on the cliff and the nearby tower that protected the village from enemy attacks. Over time, it has been enlarged several times, the warehouses have been built for the shelter of tools, the fishermen's lodgings, the rais house, the salt warehouse (necessary for the conservation of the catch), the carpentry, the kitchens and the loggia for tuna processing.
The term tonnara indicates the set of particular nets used to catch tuna. The same word also indicates the place where this type of fishing takes place. The nets, which reach a length of a few kilometers, are positioned in the sea to form the island, a set of communicating rooms with the function of trapping tuna. The tuna first enter the peripheral enclosures, then, unable to go back, they move towards the center. The central room, called the death chamber, is the only one with a mobile net that is hoisted to bring the tuna to the surface. The boats are arranged around here, it is the moment of mattanza, the final and bloodiest phase of fishing, when the tuna are harpooned.

Do I need Cash?
Most places within Sicily accept card and Apple/Android, however, it's always smart to have a few Euro. To go into the Riserva and the Tonnara, you will need 5 and 15 Euro, respectively.
